Spring Carnival

So Tuesday was that day of the year again, where a simple horse race that turns non gamblers into expert punters, turned Lani's Crew into just that. "Expert Punters". Well so we thought anyway.

It's amazing the way in which on a day where everyone has a bet, whether they know what they're doing or not, to see they various ways in which people pick the winner (or not).

We have quite the mixed bunch here at Lani's.

From our expert (or pretend to be an expert for the day) that studied the form and picked their horse based on all the things that supposedly tell you what horse is going to win, to those that picked cause they like a particular number, or trainer or jockey, to those that like the horses name and colour, and then those that picked because of what shirt the jockey was wearing, to those that just had a random pick for the heck of it.

And when one particular staff member, who shall remain nameless, kept asking all day "what time the game started".........well who knew what the eventual outcome was going to be with such experts amongst us.

So to have the winner picked by the boss, simply because of the colour of the jockey's shirt and because " I have 3 kids, so I'll have number 3 ", well that wasn't really suprising was it.

It just goes to show you don't have to know anything about anything to be a winner on Melbourne Cup day.

and to prove that Melbourne Cup really is the race that stops the nation....the phone actually stopped ringing and the door buzzer stopped buzzing long enough for the Crew to enjoy a HOT cup of coffee for afternoon tea, as opposed to the normal luke warm to cold cup due to interruptions. So if not winners in the race, we were all winners at afternoon tea.....

..............and there's always next year.
